Week 10 Assignment I Email Marketing

For my relocation services business, I would like to utilize the email newsletter on a periodical basis with varying intervals including welcome email, monthly information updates, quarterly market analysis articles and occasional special event announcements.

When a potential client signs up for email newsletter either from my business website or manually via events and contacts, a welcome email will be automatically sent to the client that introduces our services and highlights the benefits of using our services.

Information updates on topics such as local community events, neighborhoods statistics, school information, local news and ethnic and cultural events would be sent to email users on the contact lists on a monthly basis to keep them in the loop and remind them of our presence.

Quarterly articles about real estate and mortgage trends would be valuable tools for engaging with email users on my contact lists. By providing such value added information to my potential clients, my business would be able to distinguish itself among the competitors.

Lastly, my business will host and/or participate in an annual cultural event around the time of Chinese New Year to celebrate the Chinese cultural and heritage as well as establish itself as a business leader in the SoCal Chinese community. The email newsletter would be used in conjunction with website, Facebook and other social media in getting the words out and attracting new visitors.

  1. Sounds like you have some great plans that could make your readers feel comfortable here in the U.S.

You've taken a different perspective than I did and have given me something to ponder.

My concern with a periodic publishing schedule is if you build a following readers won't know when to expect the newsletter and that could hurt your following. If you get busy, because there is no deadline you could fall behind on the newsletter and there would be a large gap between editions and readers could lose interest.

  2. Maybe add a story about transitioning from China to the United States like your experience or a family member. Little anecdotes to entertain your newsletter subscribers.

  3. Great detail, I like how you were very specific in what you wanted to do with your newsletter. Along the same lines of what Brian suggested, I think something that might be helpful to your subscribers would be a list of five or ten things a foreign student or visiting scholar should be aware of before trying to relocate to the States... something like "Top Five Things You Should Know Before Arrival":

You could talk about the different kinds of Student Visas issued by the government, any cultural quirks you or others have picked up on here, differing laws, etc. Anything you think might be useful to know ahead of time. Then throw in links on where to go for more information on the tips you've given in your newsletter.

  4. Your blog has many good ideas for categories you could write about. I like the idea of the "welcome" newsletter and the real estate market information. I was unclear however if you were going to be publishing monthly or quarterly.

  5. I like the section on culture of the Chinese. The goal is great. This event will cause this informative newstter to be looked forward to the next month. Making ongoing new customers forming a cultural building block for your business and the Chinese people.
